What is digital printing?

Digital printing is a method of reproducing images or text directly onto various surfaces using digital technology, without the need for traditional printing plates.

What is giclee printing?

Giclée printing is a high-quality digital printing technique used to reproduce fine art or photographs.

It involves using specialized inkjet printers and archival-quality inks to create prints with exceptional detail, color accuracy, and longevity.

Giclée prints are often produced on fine art paper or canvas and are favoured by artists and photographers for their ability to replicate the look and feel of original artwork.

The term "giclée" is derived from the French word "gicler," which means "to squirt or spray," referring to the way ink is precisely sprayed onto the printing surface during the process.

What file formats do you accept for printing?

We accept jpeg, TIFF and PDF files. Ideally files will be setup to the correct size, with any borders included as part of the design.

If you require assistance with setting up your files, please feel free to contact one of print consultants on the live chat or via info@nicheprint.co.uk.

What is the turnaround time for digital printing orders?

Our turnaround times for printing typically range from 2 to 5 business days, depending on the complexity and volume of the order.

Do you offer rush or expedited printing services?

For expedited printing orders, we apply a nominal additional fee based on the urgency and size of the project to ensure prompt delivery without compromising quality.

What printing technologies do you use?

We us both inkjet and Eco Solvent printers.

While inkjet printing offers excellent colour accuracy and is ideal for fine art and photography, eco-solvent printing is favoured for outdoor signage, and other applications requiring long-term durability and weather resistance.

Can I request a sample or proof before placing a large order?

We can supply proof prints for customers who require them.

Generally these will be produced either at sample size [A5] or we can offer print strips at 100% to check file quality etc.

For any full sized proof these will be charged as an individual print order.

What types of finishes and coatings are available for printed products?

We offer protective coatings on some of printed products as standard.

Matte & gloss UV coatings [laminate] are available on our block mount and dibond products.

For our inkjet canvas products we recommend opting for an archival varnish to enhance and protect the image.

What is your pricing structure for digital printing?

Our print pricing structure is based on a centimetre square charge, meaning that the cost is calculated according to the total area of the print measured in square centimetres.

This approach allows for precise pricing tailored to the size of each print, ensuring fair and transparent rates regardless of the dimensions.

Do you offer volume discounts for large printing orders?

We offer discounts on printing based on ordering different quantities to provide our customers with cost-effective solutions tailored to their needs.

The more prints you order, the lower the cost per unit becomes.

Discounts start on anything above 10 prints [10% for 10 or more / 15% for 20 or more / 20% for 50 or more].

How should I submit my artwork for printing?

What types of materials do you use for printing?
  • Fine Art Paper: This paper is specifically designed for giclée printing and is often made from cotton or alpha-cellulose fibers. It comes in various weights and textures, such as smooth, matte, or textured surfaces, allowing artists to achieve different looks and feels for their prints.
  • Photo Paper: Photo papers for giclée printing are engineered to reproduce vibrant colors and sharp details. They come in glossy, satin, or luster finishes, providing options for different levels of sheen and reflectivity.
